The Man
A summer tan on my demand.
Must have been born with it.
Here all the time.
Blackened skin. I am tall.
My mind is not small.
You see I am just me.
I am NOT the man planted on the front steps outside a row home house.
However, I must say, I am not alone.
My summer tan always there.
Born with it if I dare.
I dare.
Always gifted me company.
Gave me a certain family.
The ones bouncing balls on back street hoops. Those grateful for new Christmas roller skates. Running for that ridiculous welfare cheese.
And believe me. I am not on my knees.
No. I am the one with that summer tan.
Not alone. I have company.
I am the man
Never used to be, maybe thought to be.
Now truly me, the man.
I am the man.
A man.
