I was sitting by mama, as we traveled a deserted country road
The scent of fresh spring air, an azure blue sky to behold
The car window down, my hair was tossing in splashes of breeze
Mama looked so pretty, her youthful face relaxed and at ease
The radio turned up, James Taylor blaring out, Fire and Rain
Snuck out the house, ‘she left daddy, now far from him inflicting pain
“I’m sorry baby, you have seen too much, I should have left long ago”
“Look out the window darlin’, at the mountains…still peaked with snow”
The road was bumpy, I jostled around barely hanging onto my seat
I had kicked my shoes off, the floorboard was cool, against my naked feet
I had never seen mama, look so happy, warmed my heart to its core
Puzzled I was, “Where are we going,” pleading I began to implore
“Hang on my precious, almost there, look ahead and see the clearing of the trees”
Found our honey spot, a beautiful meadow…covered with double fancy ditch lilies…
